Bob and Roberta Smith

on art and democracy

Bob and Roberta Smith is the pseudonym of Patrick Brill, leading British contemporary artist and founder of the Leytonstone Centre for Contemporary Art. In 2013, Bob and Roberta launched the Art Party with Crescent Arts, Scarborough - a group of artists and organisations who seek to better advocate the arts to Government. Central to Bob and Roberta Smith’s thinking is the idea that campaigns are extended art works which include a variety of consciousness raising artefacts. His best known works include Make Art Not War, which belongs to the Tate collection, and Letter to Michael Gove, which was a backlash to the government's downgrading of art in schools.
