Jude Kelly

On Women of the World

Jude Kelly is the Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, a role she has held since 2006. Kelly has been involved in some of the UK's most critically acclaimed creative organisations starting at the age of 22 when she founded Solent People's Theatre. She was Artistic Director at the Battersea Arts Centre for five years before leaving to found the West Yorkshire Playhouse. She has directed over 100 productions including the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, the English National Opera, and the Théâtre de Châtelet in Paris. In 2002, Kelly founded Metal, a company that provides artistic laboratory spaces in Liverpool, Southend and Peterborough. In 1997, she was awarded an OBE for her services to theatre, and in 2015 she was made a CBE in the New Year honours list for services to the Arts. Kelly's most recent endeavour is WOW - the Women of the World Festival that she founded in 2010. WOW celebrates the achievements of women and girls as well as looking at the obstacles they face across the world. From its home on the South Bank, WOW has grown internationally and by 2018 WOW will take place in 53 countries.
