Tim Birkhead

Tim Birkhead is a professor of behaviour and evolution at the University of Sheffield. His research on promiscuity and sperm competition in birds helped to re-shape current understanding of bird mating systems. His undergraduate teaching includes courses in animal behaviour and the history and philosophy of science. Tim is committed to the public understanding of science and he has written for New Scientist, BBC Wildlife, Natural History magazine, the Independent and the Times Higher Education. His popular science books have gained widespread recognition. His books include The Wisdom of Birds an illustrated account of how we know what we know about birds and Bird Sense- what it’s like to be bird.
