Jim Carter
Jim Carter is an English film, television and stage actor. His film credits include The
Madness of King George, Brassed Off, Shakespeare in Love and The Golden Compass,
and in theatre The President of an Empty Room and the Oresteia (both with the Royal
National Theatre) and The Wizard of Oz (for the RSC at the Barbican). Carter has also
worked extensively in TV, starring in The Way We Live Now, Hornblower, Midsomer
Murders and Cranford. His best known recent role is Mr Carson in Downton Abbey, a
performance that has earned him four nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award for
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2012-2015). He lives in London with
his wife Imelda Staunton.
